THE RACE COURSE: The race is a head start on a line defined by an extension of the line of north/south guardrail in the parking lot at the South-East end of Coast Guard Island (CGI). Boats will start at about 120 second (2 minute) intervals. Boats may pass under the CGI causeway between any support spans, except for the openings closest to the shore at either end. The race will be clockwise around CGI (island stays to starboard), honoring all red day marks (leaving them to starboard), and finishing at a line extended from and in line with the end of the East/west guardrail in the parking area at the South-East end of CGI (Corner of Credit Union Parking Lot).
Teams must submit names of everyone who will need base access not later than Monday April 18, 2022, to be included on the base access list. Anyone who is not on that list will be denied access through the gate. Since the after-race party is on the base, please include any guests who will be attending as well as event participants. |

Participants and observers are welcome to observe the races from both the CGI causeway and the publicly accessible shoreline of the Base’s east end. Pedestrians must stay clear of road traffic and abide by safety and security directions from posted signs on CGI property and from Base Alameda security personnel. Please note that Federal jurisdiction starts at the Oakland side of the bridge to the island, even for spaces outside of the gate.

Race Course: The race course runs between just north of the Park Street Bridge and just north of the Fruitvale Bridge. The race consists of two legs timed separately, then added together to determine team places. This will be a head start, with teams starting in 1-minute intervals. Each leg is about 600 meters, just over 1/3 mile. The first leg runs south from just north of the Park Street Bridge and the second leg runs north from just north of the Fruitvale Bridge.
Viewing: Invite your friends and family! Best places to view the activities are: • Dragon Rouge Bistro (gate behind Dollar Tree) – please be respectful • Deck outside Dragon Rouge Bistro • Oakland Side / Alameda Side waterfront • Park Street Bridge – do not block the sidewalk or get in the way of pedestrians and cyclists

RACE INSTRUCTIONS: This will be a “one and done” timed race. At the CRO discretion, there may be more than one boat on the course at the same time. If so, boats should pass port to port.
There are 2 marks on the course. Boats must keep the marks to port on turns as shown in the race course diagram. The distance for the course is approximately 1/2 mile.
If a boat touches any mark with the hull, they will be disqualified. An incidental touch of a turn mark with the oars carries no penalty, however, should a boat cause any mark to be damaged, dragged or dislodged, they will be disqualified.
The finish line will be from CRO’s position on the BVBC Race Deck and a fixed object on Pier 50. |

THE VENUE HOE is a Timed Race that starts off Township Commons. The teams race clockwise around Coast Guard Island (CGI) to a port turn off the Estuary Park Pier (same line as Oakland Cup finish line), and return to the start line. The entire hull must pass the turn line, otherwise the team will be disqualified.
The Masters will start off Township Commons, to the turn off Estuary Park and back.
• Viewing and post-race picnicking: There is great viewing from Township Commons and all along the Oakland side of Brooklyn Basin. Township Commons is also great place for an after-race picnic. Township Commons is at 288 9th Ave and is clearly signed off Embarcadero. If the weather is a bit drizzly, the area near the start/finish line is covered. (It does not have picnic tables or chairs.) In addition, you can view the turns and picnic at Estuary Park.
• Parking: Park on the streets north of Township Commons. Do not park in the Brotzeit Lokal parking lot unless you are there for a beer!
